Traditional rattan and cane furniture has always been a popular choice in homes throughout the country. But alas, the last UK-based manufacturer of cane furniture, Angraves, is no longer manufacturing in Thurmaston and that's a pity. However, there are many surviving pieces of Angraves cane furniture and they still look splendid. And so, there's plenty of opportunity still to make a painted cane furniture transformation.

Get Ready for Next Year with a Cane Furniture Transformation
We still import large quantities of rattan and cane furniture and it remains a popular furniture choice in our homes. And that's a testament to the long-lasting appeal of cane or rattan furniture for any stylish home.
These particular pieces of cane furniture were a pretty standard pale brown colour. It's cane, where the individual style comes from the build, the weave and the cushioning. Each chair had their own fabric seats and back cushions with supporting rubber belts holding them in place. And, of course, the small table, had a glass insert that we left in a secure position whilst we painted.
None of the pieces of furniture showed any obvious sign of age or wear. Perhaps a bit of sun bleaching from their time in the conservatory in their London home. But, beyond that they were in good condition. We often need to glue and clamp furniture before we paint. But on this occasion there was nothing for us to fix, though we did replace the foam rubber layer below the seats.
We were asked to paint with a grey blue colour to match up with the new decorations in the property and this worked very successfully.
Cane Furniture Transformation is Fully Covered

We used a colour from the Farrow and Ball range and a Dulux diamond eggshell finish.
Once the cushions were refitted on the chairs and the sofa it was a very pleasing transformation for this cane furniture. Coupled with the glass-topped table, the cane furniture transformation was complete.
