Painted Small Table Takes up Residence

Painting small furniture is not an unknown to us here at Shabby Chic Surrey. But this
small table has to be one of the smallest items that we've painted. Yes, we can discount trays and small mirrors because they perhaps don't count as furniture. But we do paint them. However this painted small table is definitely one of the smallest pieces we've ever completed.

The brief was quite simple. Rejuvenate the small table making it a small white painted table, which was going to live in a re-styled sitting room in London.

In terms of process we gave the small table a good sand by hand and also using a sander. Hand sanding is essential for curves, corners and round legs. That's because a powered sander tends to flatten the curves!

We started the makeover process when we applied a primer—a water-based primer for this piece of furniture. We often use a solvent-based primer particularly if the wood knots are very prevalent or if there are tannins present in the timber. But that wasn't an issue with the small table.

And that was that. No need for a shabby finish and certainly no need for a wax.

The end result, very pleasing and a rejuvenated painted small table ready for its new home in London.
