  • Upcycled Tallboy Stands Tall Again

So many of the items of furniture that we get to paint have character and presence. And this particular upcycled tallboy was no exception to that rule. In its original state it was a very brown piece of furniture but still had enormous quality and was certainly attractive.

These numerous drawers were of great appeal but beyond the drawers the most distinguishing factor was the metalwork. Those drawer handles. Huge! They are enormous and just shouted sophistication and presence for this tallboy. So our job was to upcycle the tallboy and turn it into something even better than it was before.

We gave the furniture a good sand, by hand and with an orbital sander in places. And then we applied a primer, followed by an undercoat. Then we finished off with several coats of Dulux diamond eggshell paint on this occasion.

Colour Choice for the Upcycled Tallboy

And the colour? French Gray, one of the Farrow and Ball colours.

We used to paint all of the furniture with Farrow and Ball paints. However they changed the makeup of the paint and it meant that it didn't dry to our requirements. Of course it's absolutely fine inside the house if you are painting doors, skirting boards or indeed items in the kitchen.

But for our purposes we couldn't get it to work. So hence we now mainly paint with Dulux eggshell paints. But we also we paint with Zinsser and Bedec depending
on the matt or satin finish that our customers want.

French Gray certainly suits this piece of furniture. It's an attractive colour with hints of green. Is it grey? It's French Gray and it certainly looks a treat back installed in the house where it belongs, with many many years service ahead of it.
