When it comes to painting blanket boxes or toy boxes, we get our fair share of them and it's not surprising because your archetypal blanket box is very much a feature of the modern British home. It's not that they are everywhere but, they are certainly very common. And that's probably because of their storage capacity. So, as a painted toybox, they are equally ideal for mass storage of all the lego bricks.

They also have attractive lines and, in oak or pine, they are typically good to look at. Also they are the perfect place and height for lamps, WiFi units or Smart speakers. Useful.
This particular painted toybox was certainly much-loved and had been used as a general storage piece within the house. However, it was looking a bit sad and was a bit of a problem. So we were asked to give it a good spruce-up and repaint it in a classic white paint and refit the brass handles and hinges.

Painted Toybox after its Paint Job

First, we removed the brass handles and the hinges that secured the box lid. Then we gave the box a good sand with the machine sander and also by hand. We followed that with coats of water-based primer and undercoat, and some wood knot priming. And finally, we finished off with several coats of Dulux Diamond eggshell before we put everything back together again.
Altogether it was a very pleasing and satisfying job not least as the box, now repurposed as a serious toy box, is in a very busy playroom.
