White Painted Nest of Tables is Looking Chic

The classic nest of small tables is certainly a feature of a typical British home today. Yes, styles and trends have changed and will, no doubt, continue to adapt . However, the nest of tables appears perpetual. Because there really seem to be a lot of them. A testament to their usefulness and ruggedness perhaps?

And for our part, we are often asked to paint a nest of tables. It’s definitely in the top five of items that we are asked to paint.

Of course, the very nature of these small tables, their rounded legs and intricate features, means that they’re not very conducive to machine sanding. Yes, we can sand down the top surface if you want a two-tone look for your furniture. But on those occasions when we have been asked to strip all of the dark stain or varnish from these tables, then it really doesn’t make financial sense. It’s simply too time intensive and costly to do.

Most often we are asked to paint the whole table. We can either achieve the clean look with an eggshell or perhaps a matt paint finish. Or, we can also achieve a shabby finish where we use a matt finish pain, roughen up with sandpaper and overlay with clear Annie Sloan wax. That's what we did with this small table.

Process for the White Painted Nest of Tables

We painted this white painted nest of tables in the one colour after hand sanding with a 120-grit sandpaper. We used Zinsser BIN primer to hide the obvious wood knots and then painted with a classic white eggshell mixed by Dulux. The net result is very pleasing and the tables now fully compliment the redecorated living room.
