Is it a chest of drawers or is it a tallboy? Either way, it's now a chest of drawers painted with Annie Sloan Old White. Of all the Annie Sloan colours that we use in the workshop, Old White is probably the favourite. We use it with a clear wax or on occasions, we also apply a dark wax. So, it's certainly a versatile colour that can work in many environments, old and modern.

Chest of Drawers Painted in Old White
We also use Old White as part of the limed look for old pine or oak furniture. For liming, we mix the Annie Sloan chalk paint with plenty of water before washing the solution into the wood with brushes and sponges.
But for this chest of drawers the brief was a bit different. We were asked to take a quite ordinary, but tall, chest of drawers and make it fit for a modern bedroom. Albeit with a shabby chic appearance. Sometimes the painting project will include the drawer knobs in a different colour. But this project only required a standard Old White for the drawer knobs.
Chest of Drawers Painted and Shabbied
The shabby chic effect was very mild with this chest of drawers painted Old White. We removed the painted corners and edges with a quick rasp of sandpaper and then applied the clear wax (again an Annie Sloan product).
So in the grand scheme of things this was a very chic shabby look. The net effect is very pleasing and the chest of drawers, now painted, looks the part in its old home.
