Beyond the humble bedside table your pine chest of drawers has to be the most popular piece of furniture that we're asked to paint. And this white painted chest of drawers was no exception. It was of very simple construction with pine throughout. But its simplicity didn't extend to its design. Because it was very chic with recessed drawer fronts and very elegant legs. Most chests of drawers don't benefit from such design features, sitting flat on the bedroom carpet or perhaps possessing small rounded feet.
White Painted Chest of Drawers Scrubs up Well
So this chest of drawers certainly had some advantages before we painted it white. Because that was just about the extent of the brief. Deliver a white painted chest of drawers…with the drawer knobs swapped out for some metal ones. Changing over drawer or cupboard knobs, handles or rails is something we can easily do when we paint your furniture. It's no hassle. You only have to ask and have the handles ready!
The task of giving the white painted chest of drawers a makeover was quite simple with only a few steps after we'd collected the furniture.
Completing the White Painted Chest of Drawers
Step 1
We removed the drawer knobs completely and drilled fresh holes for the new ones.
Step 2
Then, we hand sanded the chest and the separate drawers in turn.
Step 3
Before painting we masked up the drawer edges. This creates a clean look to the edges.
Step 4
We primed with a universal primer before giving the chest of drawers a coat of undercoat. When we come up against wood knots we always prime with a solvent-based primer and/ or a knotting agent, such as Rustins.
Step 5
After that we followed with several coats of top coat. In this case it was a Wimborne White eggshell, supplied by Dulux.
Step 6
Finally we removed all the masking tape from the drawer edges and fitted the new metal handles. All ready for delivery.
Our customer subsequently fitted a marble top to the chest of drawers. Even more attractive for its bathroom home. However, the quality Dulux diamond eggshell is more than able to accommodate a bathroom environment as it has a high level of moisture resistance.
