White Painted Bedroom Furniture Set Has a New Home

Your archetypal small bedroom furniture set is likely to include a dressing table, a freestanding mirror and a stool. It's also likely to be of sound pine or cane construction and present in many homes the length and breadth of the country. And yes, they're really popular and we're often asked to paint them. With this set our customer asked us to create a white painted bedroom furniture set using a Dulux eggshell paint. As a brief, it was very simple.

The furniture itself had seen many years of stout service but didn't really display any significant signs of wear and tear. And that included the cane stool, which really was in good order. So often the cane is beginning to go at key points after all the years of service.

We set about removing the glass from the mirror before we sanded, vacuumed and cleaned everything. Then we masked up the mirror glass and also masked the dressing table drawers. We do this to maintain a clean definition on the drawer sides, though sometimes the construction doesn't allow a really crisp edge.

A primer and undercoat followed before we started with the topcoat. Dulux diamond eggshell in brilliant white. We reassembled the mirror, which can be nerve-wracking when the glass is sizeable, removed all the masking tape and pieced everything together again. A very pleasing result. Now…we're tasked with those brown bedside tables for our next project!
