This white painted bed now sits proudly in its newly redecorated bedroom. But, only a few weeks ago it was a rather standard large pine bed that showed all the signs of 20 years wear and tear. And of course that is fairly standard with a pine bed. Either the bed is varnished, in which case the varnish becomes knocked and scraped over the years. Or the pine wood is left plain, unvarnished and is atmosphere-marked over the years.

White Painted Bed Needs a New mattress
This pine bed had been varnished and though marked it wasn’t extreme. But our customer wanted a change of scene with the decorations in the house. And as this involved moving beds from room to room, so the bed was on the makeover list.
Our brief was to paint with a white eggshell everything that was visible above the mattress line. And that’s what we did. Probably the biggest challenge we faced was whether to paint the bed all set-up or in pieces. And of course there are advantages with each of the two options. We opted to paint the bed in pieces. Not least because a fully set-up bed takes up an awful lot of space in the workshop!
The step process that we followed was familiar without surprise. But we did pay attention to the wood knotting. That's because pine wood knots can be a real visual problem in painted furniture. A dab of Rustins anti-knotting is always a good first step when painting such furniture.
Key Steps for the White Painted Bed
The finished bed looked very smart. And it looked smarter still when we assembled the bed back in the bedroom. We couldn’t put the mattress on the bed when we delivered, however. because it was a single! A larger mattress was yet to be delivered!
